Who We Are
Action Line for Development (ALFORD) is a Non Governmental not for profit making organization registered with the NGO Board, Ministry of Internal Affairs under the NGO registration Act of 1989 Reg .No. S.5914/3681 that focuses on multi-dimensional community concerns comprised of education, health, poverty alleviation and community development in Uganda.
ALFORD was established in 1998 by a group of highly committed and dedicated Ugandan volunteers arising out of the crises that has been caused by HIV/AIDS epidermic and poverty in Ugandan communities. The Organization is a member of the National NGO Forum, Uganda National AIDS Service Organizations (UNASO), Development Network of indigenous Voluntary Associations (DENIVA) Malaria and Child illness Secretariat ( MACIS) and Women of Uganda NGO Network (WOUGNET) and Uganda Water and Sanitation NGO Network (UWASNET).
Why Was It Formed
Action Line For Development (ALFORD) was formed to meet the educational and physical needs of orphaned and vulnerable children especially the girl child. and their caregivers/takers, providing care and support to the HIV infected and affected individuals and their vulnerable-children, provide relief from disaster like wars, cholera and floods, increase access to safe drinking water and improved hygiene and sanitation conditions to the poor and vulnerable poor communities in Uganda
More so, touched by the horrors and wounding conditions in which vulnerable women were subjected impoverished abject poverty , ill-health; high illiteracy-rates and tormented by social-ills of gross women rights abuse necessitated a formidable force to come on bode in mitigating the impact of gender-disparity, women rights’ violation and economic empowerment .
Special focus is therefore given to women and girl child who suffer disproportionately from poverty and illiteracy to increase their opportunities for equal access to education and , gainful employment and unleashing women’s potentials in the places where they have been held back regardless of race, tribe and religious-creed
