Core Program Areas

Education Program

Action Line For Development (ALFORD)  is dedicated to securing basic education for orphans and vulnerable children. Experience shows that learning attacks poverty at its roots. Educated people can make thoughtful and informed decisions that will positively affect their lives, their families, their communities and their world. Mothers are more likely to have healthier children and higher incomes. Today we work alongside communities, governments and partner organizations at many levels to address all aspects of basic education.

Our inclusive approaches include providing of scholastic materials like uniforms, pens, pencils, shoes, sweaters, bags, mathematical sets, school fees support among others to orphans and vulnerable children .; linking education programs to interventions in health, nutrition and livelihoods to better address reasons why children are out of school; involving communities in assessing and overcoming their unique barriers to learning; and conducting broad campaigns that promote the right to education for all people.

Health Program

A family cannot be economically healthy if it is not physically healthy. ALFORD's health projects focus on mothers and children, who often are the most vulnerable to disease and malnutrition. We are particularly interested in increasing the capacity of our local partners to prevent and control malaria. This includes training local health volunteers as counsellors, mentors and monitors of community health. ALFORD is focused on interventions ranging from nutrition and education to birth spacing and clinical services. Our reproductive health projects encompass family planning and the prevention, detection and treatment of STDs,
For children’s health, ongoing medical care is provided, as well as group and individual therapy for children exposed to violence, abandonment, bereavement and abuse.

Economic Empowerment Program

Alford's perspective of dealing with community problems is using the holistic approach. We look at economic hopelessness as one door through which communities are inflicted with problems and consequently unable to deal with them. Therefore through economic empowerment, community members are able to meet their day to day needs and hence are in position to deal with problems like nutrition, school fees, clothing and improved shelter. Emphasis is put on women to over the economic maladies of the families; This is because, when you give one dollar to the woman, you have given the whole family. ALFORD understand that when you support women, you are increasing the well being of the whole family.
Among activities to be carried out is business skills training, entrepreneurship skills development, Credit and savings facilities, income generation projects.

Humanitarian Aid / Relief Program

Over the past 23 years the people of Uganda (in the northern and some western, eastern and central  districts) have been engulfed in a conflict that has resulted in massive internal displacement, abduction of thousand of children, death and the destruction of homes, villages, health units and schools.   This conflict has broken down the very fabric of civil society.

People are living in constant fear.  Traditional customs which used to bring communities together to discuss and solve problem and implement solution jointly are no longer followed.  Safe protective family environment within which children should be developing no longer exist.  Children have been forced to witness or participate in atrocities against their own communities and these are psychologically wounding events, but ones from which children and family can recover if given appropriate support to build on their natural resilience.

ALFORD in collaboration with Universal Canada promotes relief services to affected households, health centers and schools in form of basic needs, scholastic materials and medical equipment to these poor communities especially in Northern Uganda, Gulu, Lira and  Apac district.

Talent Development Initiatives Program

On realizing that there are many vulnerable and orphaned children/youth who have unexploited  and un recognized  talents , Action Line for Development has come up with a talent development initiative program. The program aims at developing the talents of these children in the field of sports like girl sport, music, soccer, Tennis ball, basket ball, volley ball, vocational skills, life skills training, intellectual skills and in any other area. .  ALFORD uses this program to carry out community development programs using sports. The program help to rehabilitate the youth who have gone through psychological traumas because of HIV/AIDS and war situations, through talents development they will manage to fight poverty, fight HIV/AIDS and poor hygiene and sanitation practices using sports.
