HIV/AIDS Prevention Project

Enhancing livehoods of rural poor communities affected and infected by HIV/AIDS in Central Buganda Diocese.
In collaboration with Central Buganda Diocese, ALFORD uses its vast experience and expertise in health mitigation strategies to implement an HIV/AIDS and Nutrition project in the area covered by Central Buganda Diocese. These interventions involves training people in sustainable agriculture practices and distribution of inputs of less labor intensive activities namely orange fleshed sweet potato production, local poultry and piggery keeping.
The project targets to work directly with 1,200 beneficiaries and approximately 8,400 indirect beneficiaries with a projected financial cost of Ushs. 720,185,000. For purposes of sustainability, targeting households as an entry point will increase the chances of sustaining agricultural interventions since direct beneficiaries will be supported by the entire household membership. Further proposed agricultural interventions are sources of food and income, so proceeds from the sales can sustain the activities. The established local Village Health Team system by Ministry of Health as well a s collaboration with local departments at all levels ensures that HIV/AIDS and Nutrition messages ultimately reach communities at all times.
